Dr. Tim’s Aquatics NP-Active Pearls for Nutrient Control in Aquariums is a 100% biodegradable polymer designed and tested for aquatic systems. This innovative solution acts as a bio-carbon source for the growth of beneficial bacteria, resulting in the removal of nitrate and phosphate from your aquarium water. Use 3 ml of pearls per gallon of water in a reactor, to keep them gently tumbling. This is also great for use with aquatic turtles and aquatic amphibians.

NP-Active Pearls should be used at a rate of 3 ml of Pearls per one gallon of aquaria water (1/4 cup NP-Active Pearls per 20 gallons of water). However, when first starting with Pearls use 1 ml per gallon and add more Pearls over the first month. Note: It can take 2 to 3 weeks for the beneficial bacteria to colonize the Pearls and for you to start to see a reduction in nitrate and phosphate. NP-Active Pearls will be consumed over time and will need to be replenished. Do not wait until the reactor is empty of Pearls before adding more. Replenish Pearls every 6-9 months as needed.
Important

NP-Active Pearls should be placed in a fluidized reactor or similar device where the Pearls are kept in constant motion with sufficient water flow. Clogged Pearls should be removed and rinsed well before being added to the reactor. A good protein skimmer is strongly recommended.

All good things take time in an aquarium system (rushing never works). Do not expect miracles in a week. Using NP-Active Pearls is not an excuse for poor husbandry practices or over-feeding but is a part of a complete filtration system.
